BARRON COUNTY, Wis. — A judge set bail at $5 million for the man suspected of kidnapping Jayme Closs and killing her parents.

Through video conference, Jake Patterson made his first court appearance Monday afternoon. He said very little, only to answer "Yes" and "No" to the judge's questions.

The prosecution requested $5 million cash bail, citing the severity of Patterson's alleged crimes as detailed in the criminal complaint. The prosecution called Patterson a danger to the public.

The judge ordered bail at $5 million and also granted the state's request to order Patterson to not contact Jayme Closs, and not to contact the witnesses who first helped Jayme when she escaped. The judge also says Patterson is not allowed to have firearms.

Patterson's next court appearance is scheduled for February 6th at 11 a.m.
