GREEN BAY (WGBA) -- It is almost that time of year again where shoppers will take to the internet searching for the best deals before the holiday season. Authorities want to remind people about online scams.

"All in all, we would hate to see people become victim to a scammer," said Kevin Warych from the Green Bay Police Department.

There recently has been two scams people should keep an eye out for - one involves "Secret Sisters" gift exchange, and the other is about Facebook quizzes.

"There is just too much evidence of people getting ripped off," said Heather Nelson, from Green Bay.

Nelson said her credit car information was hacked. She didn't say how the hackers got her information, but it makes her skeptical of some websites.

"It is a rabbit hole unfortunately," Nelson said. "So it is easier for me to pass on it and go to something very trusted."

Police advise to double check sources before buying anything. Also, If it looks too good to be true, it most likely is.

"We want people to do their research," Warych said. "Validate the source, ask for a phone number to call the person back."
