APPLETON (NBC 26) -- The city of Appleton encourages safe trick or-treating this year with the coronavirus pandemic in mind.

The city is asking sick trick or treaters to stay home and to not hand out treats if you are sick.

They also suggest trick or treating with your household only and remember to practice social distancing.

"As far as people who want to hand out candy, we're encouraging them to not hand out candy directly, but to instead spread candy out on a table on your front porch, or putting them in grab bags to go for the tick-or-treaters," said Sheng Riechers, Senior Communication Specialist, City of Appleton.

The city also encourages wearing face coverings along with Halloween costumes.
