APPLETON (NBC 26) -- The Appleton Police Department remind people of the Outagamie County Drug Drop Program available to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Drug Drop Program is a way to reduce the impact of pharmaceutical waste. This has been shown to cause an environmental risk, especially for drinking water.

The drug drop box is located in the Appleton Police Department's lobby. This is where people can drop off many kinds of unused and expired medications ranging from over-the-counter to pet medications to inhalers.

Drugs being dropped off should be in a sealed plastic bag, not a pill container.

They note that items such as needles, syringes, and other hazardous or chemical waste is not allowed.
