FOND DU LAC — Around 2,000 riders came out to Fond Du Lac Sunday for the annual Race the Lake. The event features riders from all over the country - both professional and novice.
"There is nothing really like anywhere else in the Midwest," said Gloria West, the race coordinator.
Race the lake is in its 12th year. The course starts and ends in Fond Du Lac, and goes all around Lake Winnebago. In total, bikers ride 88 miles.
"We wanted this to not just be an event about racing," West said. "With it being around a beautiful lake, we wanted people to have fun too."
The race started at the crack of dawn. Despite the early ride, some bikers said seeing the sun rise on the lake was one of the best parts.
"Starting early and seeing the sunrise, and having wind from every direction, and seeing the lake all the time, it was just amazing," said Wolfgang Brandl, one of the winners.
Officials say more and more bikers sign up every year. They hope that continues into year 13.
