GREEN BAY, Wis (NBC 26) -- Many people are finding themselves in a rut right now, running out of things to do and ways to stay entertained while socially distancing. But there are some groups in northeast Wisconsin that are thriving right now, allowing friends to meet up and continue to keep their distance at the same time.

A Green Bay RC club, the Green Bay Crawling Facebook group, is gaining traction in the amount of people interested in their hobby. Two members of the group say it's becoming popular for a couple of reasons.

"Fresh air. Getaway from everything we are dealing with right now," says Brad Faubert a Green Bay Crawler.

On Monday a total of three members of the club shared what their hobby is all about, and why they think interest in racing, crawling, and yes even tumbling RC cars have garnered so much appeal right now.

"It's just something that we can do as a group together and during this time we can do it socially distancing," says Justin Novotny, a member of the club.

Interest in the sport has taken off the last several months according to members and local hobby shops.

"The kits are flying off the shelves at our local hobby stores from people that are trying to take the time to build their own. You can buy one pre-built like this or you can buy the kits to build your own from the ground up and I know we can't keep them in stock around town here," adds Novotny.

Rolling your RC car through the woods for these guys isn't terribly competitive. In fact, you don't really need more than one person to enjoy it. But those who get into the hobby are quick to admit that it is a bit more fun with the company of others, which is something many of us are lacking right now.

"Even family gatherings are kind of limited so this is a nice chance to get out here and there," says Brian Wick another member of the crew.

So, while you can, try and take in what we have left of the fall. Because while these guys have no intention of slowing down, considering they run their cars all year, all too many others are well aware this winter might be one of the most isolated seasons on record.
