KEWAUNEE COUNTY (NBC 26) — Kewaunee County will close all snowmobile trails due to the lack of fresh snow and melt, starting Friday, January 14 at 9 a.m.

The trails partially opened on Monday, January 10 in the Red River Area and Algoma area. The Luxemboug and Kewaunee area remained closed.

Kewaunee County has six snowmobile clubs that maintain the county’s nearly 205 miles of trails as well as give condition updates to the Promotions & Recreation Department.

“We had a short run, but we can tell that the trails were definitely used this week," said Director of Kewaunee County Promotions & Recreations Dave Meyers. "The snow base has deteriorated to a point that the trails are no longer usable.”

The department will continue to update trail conditions on its 24/7 hotline, (20) 388-7199 if conditions change.
