NEENAH (NBC 26) — It’s a patriotic pop you’ll only get in Neenah.

“It’s easily the best popcorn you'll ever have,” said Sean Vindhurst.

Archie's Famous Popcorn, a Neenah specialty, is turning red, white, and butter, I mean blue, to celebrate the 4th of July weekend.

“We have started popping this morning already, and we will pop all day,” Vindhurst said, the owner of Dairy Queen Grill and Chill on the west side of town.

This patriotic snack is only available at Neenah Dairy Queens; and it's a one-of-a-kind with a special history.

“The popcorn itself originated back in 1952,” Vindhurst said. “Archie's my grandfather so we are the only two dairy queens in the country that sell popcorn. You cannot get it at any other Dairy Queen; it's a grandfathered in product.”

Between Friday and Saturday, Vindhurst said they'll go through about 600 pounds of popcorn seeds.

“Neenah loves Archie’s Popcorn, and it goes beyond Neenah.”

But no matter the color, the addicting recipe that everyone seems to love, “It is a secret recipe, we did have it patented in the mid-90's,” is only available at this small family business with a big name.

“My grandfather passed over 10 years ago and it’s just such a cool thing to keep the name going.”
