MANITOWOC COUNTY (NBC 26) — A woman has been arrested after a rollover crash killed a 9-year-old girl.
According to the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded at around 8:40 a.m. Monday for a single vehicle rollover crash on I-43 south of Middle Road in Manitowoc Rapids.
According to the Sheriff's Office, a preliminary investigation revealed a 51-year-old Manitowoc woman was driving an SUV northbound on I-43 when she lost control and went into the east ditch. The SUV overturned and the Sheriff's Office said a 9-year-old girl was thrown from the vehicle. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was taken to a hospital for possible injuries. The Sheriff's Office then says the driver was arrested for homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle and operating after revocation - causing death. She is currently in Manitowoc County Jail.
The names of the driver and the girl were not released. The crash remains under investigation.
