FOND DU LAC (NBC 26) --UPDATE: Health officials in Fond du Lac County held an updated press conference Sunday afternoon.

Of the 11 confirmed cases in the county, health officials said 9 of the people were on an Egyptian River Cruise. The remaining cases are people who traveled within the U.S. They said workers form the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are expected to come to the county Monday to help with connecting people who may have been in contact with the confirmed patients.

Currently, three of the confirmed cases are hospitalized.

Community leaders have set up off-site testing, but are not announcing the locations to avoid crowds. Fond du Lac County residents can turn to a helpline at (1-844) 225-0147 with questions on coronavirus.

This helpline is for Fond du Lac residents who have been in contact with someone with confirmed positive testing for coronavirus or if they exhibit symptoms related to the virus, such as a fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

Fond du Lac County Health Department confirms five more positive cases of coronavirus as of late night Saturday, bringing the county's total positive cases to 11.

According to the Health Department, 30 coronavirus test results came back Saturday night with 25 testing negative and 5 testing positive. A health official says of the five people who tested positive, four were from an Egyptian River Cruise and one was for domestic travel to Wisconsin.

"The 25 negative test results were of individuals who felt they had contact with the known COVID-19 (coronavirus) case," Kim Miller, Health Officer of Fond du Lac Co., said in a Facebook video Saturday morning. "Since the 25 of these tests that came back negative, this really tells us that community transmission did not occur in these individuals, but this doesn't mean that community transmission isn't occurring. We just don't see it with the results we have back so far."

Miller explains the situation is far from over. Many people are currently being tested and many will need testing in the future. She says everyone must still practice social distancing.

Here are several tips Miller gives for social distancing:

  • Keep your distance about six feet away from others.
  • Be aware of how you are feeling and how others are feeling that you are with.
  • If you feel sick, stay home from work.
  • Wash your hands frequently, especially before eating and drinking.
  • Dispose of your tissues properly.
  • Clean and disinfect any surfaces that you use frequently.
  • Avoid all unnecessary travel; if you don't need to be going somewhere, please don't.

"Fond du Lac County is in a good position right now," says Miller. "We believe we are working as a strong community and moving in the right direction with all the positive social distancing decisions we are making here in Fond du Lac County. For this, I truly thank you."

The total number of confirmed active coronavirus cases in Wisconsin is 32 as of Sunday afternoon.
