WAUPACA COUNTY (NBC 26) -- Four people have been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a crash involving a semi and a car, according to Wisconsin State Patrol.

WisDOT says all lanes are now clear after being blocked for about five hours on US 45 on Friday. Wisconsin State Patrol said a 1998 Freightliner hauling an empty trailer was heading northbound on HWY 45 and collided head-on with a southbound 2010 Ford Fusion. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Four people in the car were taken to the hospital. The driver of the semi was uninjured and is cooperating with crash investigators.

The closure was on US 45 at County TT. WisDOT suggested an alternate route: For NB use WIS 96 EB to County T, take County T NB to County TT, then County TT WB back onto US 45. And vice versa for SB.
