The DNR is predicting a successful sturgeon spearing season this year.
The season begins on February 13th and runs for 16 days, or until the harvest caps are met. The DNR says they expect the caps will be met before the 16-day season ends.
They say the reason is easy to see.
“Water clarity is the biggest predictor of sturgeon spearing success and conditions are lining up for a successful spearing season this year, which is welcome news for many of our spearers out there after four or five years in a row of relatively dirty water," said Ryan Koenigs, DNR Senior Fisheries Biologist / Winnebago System Sturgeon Biologist.
