One person dead after stabbing on Green Bay's west side

GREEN BAY, Wis. (NBC 26) -- Green Bay police are investigating a stabbing on the city's west side that left one man dead and a woman injured.

Around 8:19 p.m. Monday night, police were called to the 700 block of S. Broadway.

Police say when officers arrived, they found two victims. One victim had sheltered at 715 S Broadway St. with non-life threatening injuries. The other victim was located 800 block of S. Broadway St. in his vehicle. Police said the second victim was a 70-year-old man who had been stopped at the railroad crossing for a train. Police said he was taken to a local hospital and later died of his injuries sustained in the stabbing.

Police said one victim, the woman, was stabbed at a bar and then fled to another bar nearby to take refuge. According to police, the suspect followed the victim in his vehicle, crashing into the building and almost hitting a bar patron.

Police said the suspect then fled south on Broadway Street, but got caught in a line of cars waiting for a train to pass through. Police said the suspect tried to get into several cars and managed to gain entry into the 70-year-old man's vehicle. During a struggle, police said the driver was stabbed several times.

Police say several bar patrons slowed the suspect down after the stabbing, and offered help and assistance.

Police say the suspect and the victims had no known relationship. No names are being released at this time. The 70 year old victim died at a hospital early Tuesday morning from his injuries.

According to police, officers took the suspect, a 22-year-old man, in custody in the 800 block of S. Broadway St. The Green Bay Police Department will be referring charges to the Brown County District Attorney of first-degree intentional homicide, 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, and 1st Degree Reckless Injury.
