At 5:15 p.m. Thursday the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a vehicle versus pedestrian on Highway N in the town of Birnamwood.
The reporting party was the driver of the vehicle, a 45-year-old man from Bowler, who stated he was unable to see the pedestrian due to headlights being on bright on a vehicle stopped on the side of the road.
When deputies arrived on scene they observed a 16-year-old boy from Birnamwood laying in the ditch and the reporting party performing chest compressions. Mattoon Ambulance and Birnamwood Fire Department arrived on scene. The ambulance crew requested the Shawano County Coroner be paged. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash by the Shawano County Coroner. Investigation of the crash showed the deceased struck a deer while driving, stopped in the lane of travel, exited his vehicle and was in the lane of traffic when struck by an oncoming vehicle.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Mattoon Ambulance, Birnamwood Fire Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Names and more details are not being released at this time as the incident is still under investigation, according to the Shawano County Sheriff's Office.
