Rep. Andre Jacque, (R) De Pere, plans to introduce a new bill that would make it a hate crime to attack law enforcement officers, active duty or former military personnel and correctional officers. This bill would be separate from Rep. David Steffen's, (R) Green Bay, Blue Lives Matter proposed bill.
"I have spoken with Rep. Steffen about both of our bills," a news release reads. "We have decided to keep them separate at this time due to the difference in scope and desire to not slow momentum for swift passage of the Blue Lives bill. It is my hope that my colleagues in the legislature and the Governor will be receptive to the additional expansion."
Jacque says the recent police attacks in Dallas, Baton Rouge and Monday's inmate attack at the Green Bay Correctional Institution prompted him to share the information with the public.
