Packers Development in Jeopardy

Posted

ASHWAUBENON, WI---- Several parts of the Packers' Titletown District Development to the West of Lambeau Field could be in jeopardy due to a limit on liquor licenses.

There are other pieces of development in the district other than a hotel, brewery and sports clinic.

“Restaurants or an ESPN sports bar, something like that."

State law puts a limit on liquor licenses based on population. Ashwaubenon's village president Mike Aubinger says he's at the limit needing two more.

“Does not warrant anymore than 35 or 36 licenses. We've gone to the state and asked them to help us," says Aubinger.

Rep. David Steffen of Howard is stepping in with plans to introduce legislation this week.

“Large scale economic development projects within Ashwaubenon as well as any other municipality to receive up to two additional liquor licenses," says Steffen.

The bill would be for projects of 40 acres or less at 20 million dollars or more.

The Packers released a statement today saying quote: "Rep. Steffen's proposal is with an eye to the future and potential needs that may exist in the Titletown District."

If the village needs more than two licenses, Steffen's bill would also allow area municipalities to exchange those licenses.

He plans to introduce the bill on Wednesday.
