Liquor license for Green Bay Kwik Trip denied by aldermen

Concerns over litter, vagrancy part of issue

A liquor license has been denied  for a new Kwik Trip store on West Walnut Street in Green Bay.

The Protection and Welfare Committee had discussions about the license in December of last year, also denying three other stores from the permit.

Some board members admit they're concerned about liquor being sold in the neighborhoods.

Others say the problem isn't alcohol.

"The neighbors have complained about.. litter, vagrancy, pan handling.. that doesn't really have to do with the sale of alcohol," says alderman Randy Scannell. "It's true that they're in the area.. purchasing alcohol, and their behavior becomes also an added problem, but it's really homelessness that is the core issue."

The new Kwik Trip currently has a beer and cider license only.
