Lawmakers to Look at Sex Offender Placement

TOWN OF EL DORADO, WI---- The Department of Health Services withdraws its plan to relocate Clint Rhymes to the Town of El Dorado in Fond du Lac County. Now county leaders are calling on lawmakers to do something.

“We don't want someone like that in the Town of El-Dorado."

Town chairman Gary Miller along with Fond du Lac County Sheriff Mick Fink organized a gathering with the community to discuss the placement of convicted, violent sex offender Clint Rhymes.

“The first concern was the people of El Dorado basically not getting hoodwinked," says Fink.

“Problem becomes when there is no one to put these folks in a community then they get shifted into other municipalities and that becomes the issue," says Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney.

Rep. Michael Schraa of Oshkosh is drafting legislation to revise chapter 980, the states sexually violent offender laws and possibly find a facility in the state for convicts with sexually violent pasts to live in.

“We got to do something with these. It's not just our township," says Miller.

There is a hearing tomorrow where a judge will decide whether to accept the withdrawal or side with Rhyme's attorney.
