Little Chute High School teacher Jason Lavigne appeared in Outagamie County court Thursday.

Outside the courtroom, people in Little Chute who started a petition said that they've now got more than 300 signatures of support in calling for LaVigne to be fired and superintendent David Botz to be investigated.

Lavigne is accused of sexually assaulting a high school student in 1999. A criminal complaint says the victim reported those allegations to district leaders in 2009. The complaint says superintendent Botz investigated but did not report the alleged assault to police.

The people who started this petition said that they want to know why the district never got law enforcement involved. They also want the public to know about these allegations.

"Educate and promote and get enough signatures to hand over and draw attention, if not here at the village level then at the county and state," petitioner Michael Barrett said.

In a statement last week, Botz wrote that as soon as this allegation was reported in 2009. He did a full investigation but the district did not substantiate any evidence of wrongdoing.

We did reach out again today to superintendent Botz and the school board president for comment. We did not hear back.
