After nearly 10 years, the singing competition Lakeshore's Rising Stars has returned to Manitowoc for its third season.
Hundreds auditioned this past weekend for the statewide competition, and the top ten finalists met Tuesday for their first photo shoot.
The group included several singers from Manitowoc, but many from outside the area as well.
"We definitely found what we believe to be the best, top ten singers out of Wisconsin that auditioned," said co-producer Brennan Seehafer.
While many have performing experience, some have not competed in an event like this one.
"This is actually my first vocal competition," said finalist Karly Tellekson of Wisconsin Rapids.
The competition is a way for some to chase their dreams.
"I wanted people to actually know what I could do and what I was capable of," said Katie Sievert, a finalist from Manitowoc.
Some wanted to be a part of the competition to help others, like Amanda Satchell. She is originally from Manitowoc, but now teaches music in the Milwaukee area.
"Just them seeing their teacher get up on stage and show bravery will hopefully encourage them to follow their dreams," she explained.
Overall, this group of finalists is very diverse musically, according to co-producers.
"We have somebody that can capture anybody," said Riley Haupt, one of those co-producers.
The first show is Wednesday, June 22nd at the Capitol Civic Centre in Manitowoc. The shows are every Wednesday night until the final performance, taking place Saturday, August 20th.
"It's going to be a fun-filled ride all summer long," said co-producer Terry Stevenson.
Singers advance based on judge scores and fan voting. Fans can vote either by attending the shows and voting at the venue, or by visiting designated sponsor locations until the Sunday following each show. Fans can vote once per day at each sponsor.
Tickets can be purchased online through the Capitol Civic Centre website, over the phone at 920-683-2184, or at the box office. They are sold on a week-to-week basis.
