A 30-year-old Kiel man who was a Kiel School District wrestling coach was arrested Wednesday night due to contact he had with a student, according to police and school district officials.
Eric Billmann is being held at Manitowoc County Jail on felony charges of exposing genitals, pubic area or intimate parts and exposing a child to harmful material, according to police. A $1,000 cash bond was set during Billmann's bail hearing at 1 p.m. today.
Billmann, who was not a teacher, allegedly sent a sexually explicit image and sexual solicitations via text to a student, and police say they are currently only aware of one victim.
"I encourage members of the public that if they're aware of anything to please contact police," says Chief Dave Funkhouser.
There is no evidence of any physical contact on or off campus, Kiel Area School District Administrator Louise Blankenheim said in a press release.
Billmann was hired as a part-time seasonal wrestling coach on Sept. 18, 2013, said Blankenheim, who added there were no indications from interviews, references or background checks that Billmann was not a good hire for the wrestling program. He is no longer employed by the school district.
The investigation is ongoing.
