Jury selection has been completed and the trial is underway in Outagamie County for Jeffrey VanArk, 32 of New London, who faces a first-degree reckless homicide charge in connection with the overdose death of Brandon Shadduck.
Shadduck was found dead in his apartment in 2014.
During opening statements, attorneys for the prosecution said they plan to prove VanArk was getting methadone from a local clinic and selling to friends. Evidence shows text conversations between Shadduck and VanArk about getting the drug. There is also bank transaction evidence showing Shadduck took out the exact cost of the drugs shortly before he died.
Attorneys for the defense said they'll explain to the jury reasons why VanArk would not have sold methadone to Shadduck.
NBC26 has a reporter at the trial and will provide updates as they develop.
