Jeanna Giese talks about becoming a mom

Posted

Jeanna Giese, the first person to survive rabies without being vaccinated, is reflecting on Mother’s Day. On March 26, 2016, Jeanna gave birth to twins Carly and Connor. The milestone comes more than 11 years after doctors at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin used an experimental treatment to save her life.

Now called the Milwaukee Protocol, the treatment has been used to have 10 other lives: two in the United States, four in Peru, and one each in Colombia, Brazil, Chile and Qatar.

Jeanna spent six days in a medically induced coma and 75 days at Children’s Hospital before being released virus free.
