Stephanie Wiener, the Appleton police officer who was shot by a shoplifting suspect on May 28th, got to meet country star Luke Bryan Friday night at Country USA in Oshkosh.

According to the Appleton Police Department's Facebook page, two officers from the Green Bay Police Department arranged the backstage meeting to "help out their sister-in-blue." The post says Bryan was a "gracious host," gave she and her fiance "words of encouragement," and they got to watch some of the concert from the stage.

Officer Wiener continues to recover from her injuries. She was shot in the hip after a suspect attacked her and got control of her gun. A good Samaritan, 23-year-old Andrew Maltbey, of Appleton was also shot in the chest before the suspect shot and killed himself. Maltbey and Officer Weiner both had surgery for their wounds and will recover according to police.

The Green Bay Police Department handled the external investigation and found that Officer Weiner gave several warnings before she tased the suspect. Investigators cleared her of any wrongdoing and said she acted appropriately during the shooting incident.
