While many spend Memorial Day with family at barbecues, hundreds gathered in Green Bay Monday to pay respects and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
The ceremony took place at Fort Howard Memorial Park Cemetery.
For those who served, they're proud to be part of an event that reminds people the true meaning of the holiday.
"Every time I go to these, I sit down and think about the troops that I've lost, the friends that I've lost and how we really need to remember them," said Major (Ret.) Robert Haglund.
Haglund said he hopes everyone takes a moment to remember those who lost their lives in the service of their country on Memorial Day.
