Huge cuts in the president's budget are proposed for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
The money is used to clean up pollution, fight invasive species, and restore wetlands.
According to the Senate Great Lakes Task Force, under President Trump's budget proposal, the funding for the program would be cut by 97 percent .
Governor Walker, who is a big supporter of the president, was asked about the possible cuts this week.
"I want to make sure not that just that we protect funding but we protect funding prudently. Just spending more money on something isn't the answer. Making sure those dollars are spent in a way that actually protects this incredible asset," says Walker, "one of the greatest assets of fresh water anywhere in the world."
7 of 8 of Wisconsin's eight Congressional members signed a letter last month asking the president to protect the money.
