Hortonville Police Chief resigns

Hortonville Police Chief Michael Sullivan has resigned, according to his attorney.

In his resignation letter, Sullivan thanked the Village residents "who have entrusted me to serve and protect them for these many years."

Sullivan cited lack of cooperation and support with the Village Administration as reasons for his resignation. He also said he believes the role has become political.

Sullivan said in his letter that he had been given a new opportunity in law enforcement. He has been offered a job with the Wrightstown Police Department as a patrol officer, Village Administrator Travis Coenen confirmed. He was the most qualified one for the position, Coenen said.

Sullivan served a two week, unpaid suspension in February after Village of Hortonville attorneys argued Sullivan's words and written policies discouraged officers' rights.

He was also accused of using discriminatory, at times, sexist language against female officers and Village leaders.

Sullivan was on paid leave since October 2016.

He denied most of the allegations.
