The New London Fire Department reports they were called to a plane crash today at 4:22PM in the Township of Mukwa. The aircraft was a new, home built, fixed wing, experimental aircraft with less than 50 hours of flight time.
Fire fighters say a man crashed a homemade plane just off the runway at Poppy's Flying Acres on Faskell Road.
The lone occupant of the plane was taken to ThedaClark of New London with lacerations to his head.
According to New London Fire Department Captain Bernie Ritchie, a neighbor heard what sounded like a plane crash and made the 9-1-1 call. The operator of the aircraft was able to be pulled from it moments before the fuel tank exploded.
The aircraft was engulfed in flames and is a complete loss.
The Waupaca County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Gold Cross Ambulance, New London Fire Department and multiple concerned neighbors who helped rescue the operator of this aircraft.
