A new program in De Pere is allowing senior citizens to stay in their homes longer. It's called Remembering When. Through a scholarship, members of the health department and fire department will inspect homes for fire dangers and falling hazards.
Erin Bongers with the De Pere Health Department says there are things you can do to make your loved one's home safer.
"Preventing falls with the removal of rugs, having grab bars installed in bathrooms, areas where they're at risk for falls," she explained.
Bongers says they also check smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
