Each year since the Vietnam War era, a tree lit during the holiday season in Green Bay has stood for peace.
The annual lighting of the "Peace Tree" took place Wednesday night outside the Brown County Courthouse.
The goal of the tree is to call for an end to violence around the world and in Brown County.
"This is a chance to just take a step back and a breath and say this is about peace, and people's families in the community and in our world," explained Jeff Mirkes with Downtown Green Bay, Inc.
The tree will stay lit throughout the holiday season.
