Hog wrestling contest controversy

Animal rights group trying to stop event
Posted

An animal rights group is preparing to file charges against a Crivitz area bar for holding their hog wrestling contest.  Caldron Falls Bar and Grill has held the contest for thirty years.  But now, Hunter Shaffer of the Global Conservation Group, says he has filed for an injunction to stop the event, and will go to court if it goes on.  He says it violates Wisconsin statutes that prohibit cruelty to animals and will bring charges against the bar if the event is held as scheduled.

NBC26 reached out to the bar owner, and he tells us that the pigs have never been hurt, but people have.  He also says they have no plans to cancel the event which he claims boosts the local economy.  The 31st Annual Hog Wrestling Competition is set for Saturday, July, 23rd.
