GREEN BAY, WI -- The wild winter weather is closing roads, and causing several car crashes.
Along Highway 172, cars and plows are moving much slower than normal, as high winds whip up all the fresh snow, creating near whiteout conditions on the roads.
Earlier today, a chaotic scene was unfolding along Packerland Drive, as cars and trucks were unable to make it up the road's icy incline..
"It's crazy," says neighbor Karen Ludolph, "it's a little slippery."
Neighbors were helping push cars onto side roads, as snowplows worked to de-ice the streets--a scene that Ludolph has grown used to.
"This happens every year on Packerland, here," says Ludolph, "and we know that because we live on Parkwood, and they always come down our street."
From Green Bay, to the Fox Cities, similar scenes are still playing out on the roads tonight.
"Wind makes it harder for you to control the vehicle," says Wi State Patrolman Kris Mondloch.
He says strong winds are only adding to the dangers of driving.
"The wind causes the roadway to freeze faster, and the bridge decks, and the overpasses--they freeze faster than the roadways," says Mondloch. "It may not look like it's that bad. But if that freezes up, it's going to be real slick."
And the work is far from over, as city and county snow removal teams gear up for the morning commute just hours away.
"They will be, first thing tomorrow morning, getting out there and ready to go," says Dean Steingraber, of the Outagamie Co. Highway Dept.
