Due to high wave activity, the South Pier is closed to the public for the remainder of Monday. Swimmers at Sheboygan beaches are reminded to use extreme caution as there is a high risk of strong currents.
------------------------
The Coast Guard and National Weather Service are warning beachgoers of dangerous swimming conditions at Lake Michigan Beaches in Sheboygan and Ozaukee counties.
The Coast Guard urges that everyone enjoying time on the lakeshore Monday to use extreme caution, especially if entering the water.
Forecasts indicate that south to southeast winds are expected to increase to 15 to 25 miles per hour Monday morning, which will cause wave heights at Lake Michigan beaches to increase to three to five feet. This will increase the likelihood of dangerous waves and strong currents, especially along structures, piers and near river outlets.
A high swim risk is in effect from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Monday.
