UPDATED Sept. 8, 2016
At about 3:13 p.m., a 14-year-old high school girl was walking north on Washington Street crossing Kennedy Avenue when she collided with a vehicle traveling west on Kennedy Avenue.
Officers conducting the investigation spoke with numerous witnesses, and determined that Kennedy Avenue traffic had a green light at the time of the crash. According to police, the student began crossing the street without the right of way. An additional factor to the accident, was that the striking vehicle’s vision of the crosswalk was obstructed by a mid-size SUV that was stopped in the west bound left turn lane, waiting to turn left.
As a result of the investigation, it was determined the operator of the vehicle committed no traffic violations, and will not receive any citations, police said in a press release.

Fox Valley Metro Police say a high school aged girl was hit by a car in front of Kimberly High School Wednesday afternoon.
The girl has minor, non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
Officers say it's a reminder to slow down and pay attention in school zones.
"More often than not, people are just in a hurry. We need to allow both pedestrians and those operating vehicles to take that extra time. Leave five or ten minutes earlier and just slow down," advises Michael Lambie with Fox Valley Metro Police.
The accident remains under investigation.
