Home and business owners in St. Nazianz on Saturday were accessing damages after Friday's hail storm that rained ice the size of golf balls on their properties.
"I've got a couple windows that are going to need to be replaced because there all pitted, said home owner Stacy Backhaus. “The hail stones literally looks like someone took a hammer and hit them all."
Winds ripped through the village leaving leaves and debris in yards and streets.
Volunteers outside of the St. Nazianz Christian Center Thrift store said the tree broke during the storm.
People in the town said the worst damage from the storm happened during about 5 minutes of hail. They said this was around 5:20pm.
"The winds are what drove the hail to cause the damage,” said Linda O’leary, employee of Pingel Insurance Company. “Most of the damage is cosmetic to houses, to the roofs, to vehicles."
O’leary said they had filed over 40 claims after Friday's storm. It also included damage to farms and crops.
"You could just see piles of hail along the road and obviously the crops are pretty damaged, but it’s good because its only the leaves on the outside," said Taylor Binversie about her family’s corn.
She is the daughter of the owner of Robinway Dairy farm.
O’leary said out of their 40 claims, one client called in about the damage on their farm.
"The corn crops got shredded,” said O’leary. “The stalks, the leaves got shredded and the strong winds bent them over."
O’leary said damages from the storm could cost over $50,000. She said it costs $10,000 alone to replace a roof of home.
