Green Bay police officers will now be better protected during dangerous calls involving guns. On Thursday, the department received new ballistic vests and helmets. Police say the gear will now protect them from rifle rounds instead of just bullets from handguns.
"We're constantly looking for stuff to improve the work conditions for our officers and the safety conditions for our officers, and this was just another step towards that," said Jerry Young.
The department says it would have been a struggle to purchase the expensive equipment without a grant from the Green Bay Police Foundation.
