The Green Bay Police Department is encouraging everyone to lock up your bicycles this summer.

Since May 6th, the department has investigated seven bike theft complaints with a total of 12 bikes stolen.

Officers have also responded to found bikes that have been abandoned.

Police say that every year, the department takes in countless amounts of bikes that cannot be returned to their owners because owners either do not know the bike serial number or the bikes do not have a license.

The Green Bay Police Department offers free bike licenses.

All residents can come to the department and ask for their bike to be registered.

Registering your bike is the best way for your bike to be returned to you if it is lost or stolen.

Bikes that cannot be returned to their owners are placed in storage and auctioned off at the bike auction.

This year’s bike auction is this Saturday, June 2nd from 08:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Brown County Fairgrounds.
