Grand Chute duplex damaged by garage fire

Posted

Fire destroyed a garage and damaged a duplex in Grand Chute Wednesday night.

At 9:19 p.m. Wednesday the Grand Chute Fire Department was dispatched to 1460 S. Nicolet Road for a report of a duplex with an attached garage on fire, according to a department press release. Appleton and town of Menasha fire units were also called to the scene under automatic aid agreements in place.

First arriving crews encountered heavy fire conditions from the garage and initiated an offensive interior fire attack operation to confine the fire to the involved dwelling unit and provide protection to the attached unit to the north.

The fire extended from the garage into the living space, but was quickly extinguished by firefighters. Both units of the duplex were occupied at the time of the fire, however all residents were able to evacuate safely prior to the arrival of fire personnel. The fire was declared under control at 9:53 p.m. Residents of the involved dwelling unit were displaced, however the other unit remained tenable and did not sustain damage as a result of the fire.

Fire personnel remained on scene for several hours conducting salvage and overhaul operations. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The Grand Chute Fire Department conducted an investigation and determined the cause to be accidental.
