Governor Scott Walker visited Oakfield Middle School/High School Thursday in Fond du Lac County. Walker spoke to students focusing on grade school education.
Walker's Executive Budget proposal, includes $649 million in new state aids for all of Wisconsin's K-12 schools and an increase in per student categorical aid by $509.2 million. Governor Walker says his budget will also lift total K-12 investment to $11.5 billion over two years.
According to Governor Walker's office, the Oakfield School District is estimated to receive about $7.36 million in funding from the state under Governor Walker's budget including an increase of $288,108 in per student aid and an increase of $108,622 in sparsity aid. Sparsity aid gives $300 per student additional funding to small rural school districts that have less than 745 students and a population density of fewer than 10 students per square mile of district attendance.
Walker's office says the Oakfield School District may be eligible for further funding under Governor Walker's budget proposal, such as mental health grants, energy efficiency incentives and special needs grants.
