Gibraltar High School is mourning the loss of one of their students. 16 year old Olivia Dahl of Sister Bay died in a plane crash on Sunday. She was the passenger in the small plane and was taking lessons to become a pilot from 69 year old Ralph Keller when their plane went down in Peninsula State Park in Door County.

"The Gibraltar school community is saddened by the sudden passing of our student, Olivia Dahl," a news release reads. "As the school district comes together to grieve the loss of Olivia, our first priority is to ensure that students, families, and staff members have the support they need."

Watch: Authorities investigate Door County plane crash:

Authorities believe the two were heading back to the Ephraim-Gibraltar airport when something went wrong with the plane. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The FAA arrived Monday morning to investigate as well.

Many people in Sister Bay and the surrounding area told NBC26 that Dahl had a bright future ahead of her.

"Wonderful family, it's just a terribly unfortunate thing," said family friend Larry Perkins.
