MILWAUKEE (AP) - The director of Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee has been fired.

The Milwaukee County executive's office said Thursday that Ismael "Izzy" Bonilla was fired, effective immediately. The airport is owned and operated by Milwaukee County.

The county's independent Audit Services Division had conducted an investigation into allegations of misconduct by Bonilla.  County Executive Chris Abele's office says Bonilla "used privileged information in a way that may have financially benefited former co-workers."

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says Bonilla could not be reached for comment. It's not known if he has an attorney.

Bonilla was paid $175,000 a year. He became airport director in February of 2016.
