GBPD unveils new police boat in honor of officer

Posted

The Green Bay Police Dept. will have a new presence on the water this summer with a new fleet boat.

Thursday, officers unveiled the boat. It honors a former officer who patrolled the waterways for several years before passing away from cancer.

On April 20, 2018, Officer Terry Halvorson died after giving his all in a fight with pancreatic cancer. Officer Halverson was hired in 1989 and retired in 2014 after 25 years of dedicated service.

Officer Halvorson’s family says they’re amazed by the department’s gesture.

"Just to feel the love from the police department and the colleagues, it's just beyond words," said Carla Halvorson, Officer Halvorson’s wife.

The boat was previously operated by the United States Coast Guard out of the port in Chicago.
