Green Bay Metro Fire reports they responded to a home in the 1100 block of Spence Street around 7:45 p.m. on Friday, because a garbage can had caught on fire.
The fire spread to the exterior of the home, but quick responding crews were able to keep it from spreading into the home.
They believe the fire was caused by improper disposal of wood stove ashes, and remind people to use caution anytime you dispose of ashes or coals.
