Friday was a normal summer day in Kewaunee, but friends of Mark Wautelet have him on their mind.

"It's a hard thing to take.” said Tom Kleiman.

County officials say Wautelet, who is an avid fisherman, went out on Lake Michigan on Wednesday afternoon and never came back.

"When something this unfortunate happens it's always a shock and the shock of it is probably the hardest thing for everybody to deal with,” said Kleiman.

A community is now missing someone who was more than just a fisherman.

"He of course was involved with our snowmobile club extensively. He's the president, been involved quite a few years. He was also a mentor. There is a turkey hunting, learning how to turkey hunt around here in Kewaunee and other places every spring,” said Kleiman.

As he waits for answers, Kleiman has this message.

"Remember that if it can happen to someone like mark, it can happen to anyone. He's been on the water for all these years. It just takes one moment,” said Kleiman.
