A Freedom couple, who has been married over 25 years, was happy to spend another Valentine's Day by each other's side.
NBC26 first introduced you to Sally and Randy Geurts last Valentine's Day when the couple was receiving chemotherapy at Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology in Appleton. During that appointment, they got a surprise visit from their children who were away at college, plus gifts and lunch.
Fast forward a year and now Sally's breast cancer is in remission. Randy, on the other hand, is still fighting stage four prostate cancer.
After losing a friend recently to cancer, Randy decided it was time to take his family to Hawaii so his wife could realize her life-long dream. Sally said everyone should make the most of every minute of their life.
"It's too short. You just don't know. You have no clue when something terrible can happen, so you should take advantage of it while you can and embrace it."
The Guerts thank their family, friends and all the staff at the Appleton clinic for their support. It has helped give Randy the strength to go back to work full time. The couple is also helping other patients navigate their own cancer journeys.
