Taiwan-based manufacturer Foxconn is putting what it says will be the final product of its proposed $10 billion Wisconsin plant on display.
Foxconn reps are putting on the display Monday and Tuesday at Waukesha County Technical College to give business leaders, educators and students a look at what company employees say will be the first LCD screens built in America.
“To really be able to touch and see these products, and the technology involved to produce them as well as what this new technology can do is extremely exciting,” said Mike Shiels, Waukesha County Technical College.
Foxconn employees say 13,000 workers will build those screens in complex three times the size of the Pentagon. They say employees will earn an average salary of more than $50,000 per year. State lawmakers expect the company to help generate more than 180 million dollars in taxes.
"I think it's exciting for the area. We talk about what industries can impact Wisconsin and make them become a real player as we move forward in the market and getting tech involved in southeastern Wisconsin is unbelievably good for this area," Shawn Theesfeld, Hamacher Resource Group.
The showcase allows locals to get a sense of what the final product of all these numbers will be.
“I have the new technology. I have the 4K right now. I thought that was great. But this is incredible. It's just incredible with everything that this stands for. It's exciting!” said Sandra Pinti, attendee.
This showcase comes on the eve of state lawmakers gathering in Madison for a special session to consider legislation helping Foxconn's construction by easing environmental regulation.
Lawmakers will also discuss borrowing more than $250 million to finish rebuilding I-94 in southeast Wisconsin, along the Racine-Kenosha county corridor.
