It’s an exciting season for many boaters as the Fox River Navigational System Authority completed a 10-year project to restore 16 of the locks last summer.
Now ten of the locks are operational this season meaning for the first time in 30 years, boaters have the chance to navigate the 13-mile stretch of the fox river from little lake Butte de Morts to Kaukauna.
The Little Chute and the two Combined Locks locks will open by Memorial Day weekend because right now they are still filling up with water but it's the first time in 30 years those locks will be open.
The five Kaukauna locks will open next year.
The Menasha lock will remain closed this season because of the invasive species the round gobies, access to Lake Winnebago through the Menasha lock will not be possible this year.
