Four people are without a home after a kitchen fire in Appleton.
It happened around 1:50 p.m. on Sunday in the 2700 block of N. Mason St.
A pan was left on the stove while a woman left to purchase a new sponge to do dishes.
When she returned home the kitchen was filled with smoke.
When crews arrived they encountered heavy smoke, but found the fire had nearly burned itself out.
Crews used a water extinguisher to completely put out the fire.
Damage is estimated around $6,000.
Nobody else was home at the time of the fire.
The fire department reminds people to never leave your home with items cooking on your stove, and to have a lid or baking soda nearby in case a fire starts while cooking.
