SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) -- A former Sheboygan alderman has been sent to prison for 10 years for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy and seeking a bribe as a public official.

Sheboygan County Circuit Judge L. Edward Stengel also sentenced Kevin MatiChek to 10 years of extended supervision. A criminal complaint says MatiChek began a relationship with the boy in the summer of 2014, which continued until MatiChek was arrested in February 2015.

The victim told the judge MatiChek stripped away his self-worth and the emotionally-damaging relationship caused his school grades to plummet, his appearance to deteriorate and him to lash out at his family.

MatiChek told the judge Monday that he took responsibility for his actions and had time to reflect on what he'd done while in solitary confinement.
