The city of Fond du Lac Police Department confirms that on Monday, December 19 at 5:54 p.m. officers responded to the area of 367 N. Peters Avenue in response to a report that a man was assaulting a woman.

Upon arrival, officers say they determined both the man and the woman were inside an apartment and would not answer the door.

Officers say they heard a cry for help from the woman.

When they entered the apartment, officers say they found the 19-year-old female victim, but the man had jumped off of the second story balcony and fled on foot.

One of the department's K9 units was used to track the male suspect.

Officers say he was located inside of a storage garage for a local apartment complex that he had broken into.

The suspect, a 22-year-old man from Illinois, was apprehended through the use of the K9, according to police.

He is currently being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges of Battery, 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, False Imprisonment, Intimidation of a Victim, Entry into a Locked Building, Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Damage to Property and Resisting/Obstructing an Officer.
